Tisbe Copepods
Note: Unlike most copepods on the market which are seived to only contain adults, our copepods are a full mixed culture of larva, juveniles and adults, and often eggs as well. This will help introduce a population of various life stages and help boost your own population in your tank.
Tisbe copepods
(specifically Tisbe biminiensis) are small, tropical, benthic (bottom-dwelling) crustaceans widely used in saltwater aquariums as both a highly nutritious live food and a natural "clean-up crew".
Key Characteristics
Size: Adults are typically 0.5–1.0 mm, appearing as tiny white specks to the naked eye. Their larvae (nauplii) are microscopic (50–75 µm), making them a perfect food for coral polyps.
Behavior: They primarily crawl on substrate, live rock, and glass rather than swimming in open water. They are nocturnal and negatively phototactic (flee from light), which helps them survive predation.
Nutrition: They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids (DHA, EPA, and ARA) and protein. Uniquely, they can convert low-quality detritus into these "golden fats," making them highly nutritious for fish.
Benefits to Your Aquarium
Dietary Support: Essential for "finicky" eaters that hunt all day, such as Mandarin Dragonets, Seahorses, Wrasses, and Pipefish.
Clean-Up Crew: They consume detritus, uneaten fish food, and nuisance biofilms (like brown diatoms) in tight crevices that snails and crabs cannot reach.
